The brief

The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Baltimore Ravens 33-10, handing Baltimore their fourth consecutive loss as the team navigated multiple injuries at the quarterback position.

The story

The Jacksonville Jaguars opened week nine of the NFL season with a 33-10 victory against the Baltimore Ravens. The result improved Jacksonville's record to 6-2, marking their fifth win in six games and extending their lead in the AFC South to three and a half games. Meanwhile, the loss dropped Baltimore to a 4-5 record and extended their losing streak to four matches.

Playing without their top two quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley, who were both sidelined on injured reserve, the Ravens started rookie Joe Fagnano. Fagnano, dealing with an ankle issue, managed 60 passing yards. To offset their personnel shortages, Baltimore utilized direct snaps to Derrick Henry in Wildcat-style formations throughout the contest. Despite these efforts, the offense was limited to a field goal until late in the match.

Jacksonville capitalized on the Ravens' situation without needing to take extreme risks on a rainy night. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 242 yards and threw a touchdown pass. The Jaguars established control early, driving 77 yards on the opening possession and taking a 7-0 lead following a one-yard touchdown run by Bhayshul Tuten. Lawrence stated that the initial drive was vital for setting the tone of the game.

A closer look

The score remained close through the first half before Lawrence connected with Parker Washington for a 50-yard touchdown pass with 58 seconds remaining before intermission, extending the lead to 17-3. Jacksonville coach Liam Coen noted that his team had extensively practiced defending the Wildcat formation used by their opponents.

Baltimore coach Jesse Minter acknowledged the difficulty of the circumstances facing his squad but emphasized that the team would not offer excuses for the absence of injured players. The Ravens are currently awaiting the arrival of Jacoby Brissett as they attempt to stabilize their season.
