The brief

Police say two men and a woman were arrested and charged with misconduct involving a corpse after a funeral home owner reported suspicious behaviour during a viewing in Browns Plains.

The story

Queensland police have charged two men, aged 47 and 38, and a 43‑year‑old woman with misconduct involving a corpse after an incident at the Eastern Road funeral home in Browns Plains on Friday. The trio had arrived shortly before 1 p.m. to attend a viewing for a relative of the deceased man.

According to funeral director Esther Swanborough, a man who was viewing his father's body asked her to leave the room for several minutes. When she returned, she observed the three visitors acting unusually and discovered that a piece of tissue appeared to have been removed from the body.

Swanborough said she immediately contacted police after confirming the alteration. The man who was initially seen with the deceased fled the premises before officers arrived, but was later located and arrested at his home. The other two suspects were detained at the funeral home.

A closer look

All three individuals have been charged with misconduct involving a corpse, entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, and being armed with intent to enter a premises and commit an indictable offence. They are scheduled to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have not released further details about the motive behind the alleged interference. The incident has prompted the funeral home to review its security procedures during viewings.
