Russell Brand rape trial: Accuser describes alleged assault
The full report
A woman who alleges Russell Brand raped her in a hotel room has described the actor and comedian as 'monster-like' before the alleged assault. The woman, who was given the pseudonym Ms A, told the jury at Southwark Crown Court that Brand turned from 'camp, friendly and effeminate' to 'dark and arrogant and performing - he was scary, he was demanding'.
The allegations, made by six female complainants, span a 10-year period between 1999 and 2009. Brand, 51, denies the charges. The woman told police she met Brand before he was famous while attending the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth in 1999. She alleges he later raped her.
The woman said she was left feeling 'dirty' and afraid she may be pregnant in the aftermath of the alleged attack. Before the alleged rape, the woman also said Brand made her take photos of him with his top off, which were shown to the jury. The jury were shown an image the woman said she took of Brand before the alleged assault.
The woman told the police officer she thought Brand 'was gay' when they met earlier and she didn't feel like he was 'trying it on with her'. However, when she came out of the bathroom, she was taken aback by Brand's appearance, saying he was 'prancing around' in briefs. The woman alleged Brand told her: 'Don't worry, that's how I am.'
The prosecution has continued to lay out its case in Russell Brand's rape trial. The trial is expected to last for at least six weeks. English entertainer Russell Brand is standing trial in Southwark Crown Court accused of several sexual offences relating to six women over a 10-year period from 1999.
Pictures she took of Brand in her hotel room on the night the actor and comedian's alleged assault were shown to the jury. Ms A told the court she had met Brand, who was performing but not yet famous, on the sidelines of the Labour Party's conference in Bournemouth. She told the court they got talking about politics and discussed the potential to collaborate on a creative project.
