The full report
A 32-year-old man has been charged in relation to an incident in Sydney's inner west, where a gun lockdown was implemented. The man was arrested late Sunday in Burwood, after being on the run since Friday morning.
The incident began when police were called to a basement car park in Dulwich Hill, following reports of a stolen car that had been set on fire. The man allegedly threatened owners who confronted him, prompting him to flee the scene.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene and extinguished the fire, with no injuries recorded. The man then allegedly fled on foot through a nearby park, prompting a lockdown in the suburb with helicopters roving above.
Police released an image of the suspect on social media, describing him as being of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm tall, with a thin build and shaggy hair. He was charged with seven offences, including possessing a shortened firearm without authority.
A shotgun allegedly used by the man to threaten people has not yet been found, police say. The man is known to police and was charged earlier this morning amid an investigation into reports of a gunman in the inner west on Friday.
The stolen vehicle was set on fire and the man allegedly threatened witnesses with the firearm. The car was stolen a few days prior from Marrickville, with no injuries reported. The man left the scene on foot, sending the area into lockdown.
