The full report
A British man, Joshua Foster, has been handed a €3,000 fine after his two-year-old son fell nearly 12 metres to his death from the fourth floor window of a hotel in Cyprus.
The incident occurred on 12 July at the five-star King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas, during the family's holiday.
Foster, 37, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act, and appeared at Paphos district court on Friday for sentencing.
According to the court, Foster thought the window was closed when he placed the boy on a sill to show him the view of a waterpark, but 'lost control' of him.
The court previously heard that Foster and his family had arrived in Cyprus in the early hours of the morning on the date of the incident, and had been engaging in various activities throughout the day.
Foster's lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, told the court that the defendant was in a 'good mood' and was playing with his son when the incident occurred.
The court was told that Foster had not realised that the section of the window was open, and that he thought there was protective glass.
