Police respond to CBD incident near Flinders Street Station in Melbourne

The full report

Police are responding to reports of an emergency incident near the intersection of Elizabeth and Flinders streets in Melbourne's CBD, according to ABC News. A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by an allegedly stolen car seen driving erratically near Melbourne's Flinders St station.

Witnesses told the ABC that the car came very close to the Melbourne marathon route. Paramedics confirmed one person was taken to hospital, while Victoria Police have arrested a teenager over the incident who will be interviewed.

Witnesses described the driver as erratic and speeding, coming within metres of the Melbourne marathon course after allegedly hitting a pedestrian near Flinders St station in the Melbourne city centre. Emergency services, including paramedics and multiple police, responded to the incident on Sunday morning.

Authorities confirmed a woman from Southbank was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Victoria Police have arrested a teenager in relation to the incident. Police said it was not believed to be an 'act of terrorism or a targeted attack.'

Police allege a 16-year-old boy was driving a stolen car along tram lines on Flinders Street, before he hit a pedestrian at the Elizabeth Street intersection. Authorities allege he was driving a Ford Escape that was stolen overnight from a business in Cranbourne South, in Melbourne's outer south-east.

Multiple witnesses told the ABC they saw a white car driving fast and erratically down Flinders Street, Flinders Lane and Elizabeth Street from around 10.30am this morning. One local worker described the incident as 'so scary' and said people were screaming on the road.
