No further action to be taken against wife of PM's aide over Palestine Action post
The full report
The Metropolitan Police have announced that no further action will be taken against Sarah Helm, the wife of the government's national security adviser, over a social media post referencing Palestine Action.
Helm's post on X read: "God help us authors who support Palestine and Palestine Action." She was responding to a discussion about the author Sally Rooney, who has said she can no longer sell her books in the UK because of her support for Palestine Action.
The police assessed the post and determined that it did not meet the criminal threshold. The force stated that "no further police action will be taken".
Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organisation in July 2025, and support of the group is a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) had called on the police to investigate Helm's post, stating that it "raises extremely serious questions for Jonathan Powell and the government."
Downing Street has distanced itself from Helm's remarks, and the CAA acknowledged that "spouses are entitled to independent views" but emphasized that Helm's post must be investigated and she must face the full force of the law.
