Dogs captured after attack on Brisbane man
The full report
Two dogs have been captured after a man was attacked in Brisbane's north overnight. Emergency services were called to Kittyhawk Drive in Chermside just after 6pm on Friday evening after reports a man had been attacked by dogs.
They found a 37-year-old man with serious injuries to both arms, and two dogs fled the scene. The man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Police located and captured one of the dogs nearby a short time later with the assistance of a police helicopter. The other dog remained at large overnight but was located and captured by police at an address in Wavell Heights this morning.
A spokesperson for Brisbane City Council said both dogs were registered at the same address and had not previously been declared dangerous. Both dogs involved are now in council possession and a decision on their future will be made as soon as possible.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the council was taking the matter 'extremely seriously'. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighbourhood and this horrific incident is a devastating reminder of why dog owners must take responsibility for keeping their pets safely secured.
