US journalist injured in West Bank clashes
The full report
A US journalist was injured in the occupied West Bank after being attacked by a group of Israeli settlers, according to the Washington Post. The incident occurred near the village of Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah, and involved dozens of masked Israeli settlers who attacked Palestinian villagers gathering the autumn olive harvest. The Washington Post photographer, Heidi Levine, was beaten by the settlers while reporting on the scene, despite wearing visible markings identifying her as a journalist.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Border Police attended the scene, but the facts surrounding the confrontation remain unclear and are under investigation. The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement saying that there were reports of a confrontation between approximately 40 Israeli youths and some 200 Arabs and far-left activists, with footage showing masked individuals from both sides hurling objects.
Veteran photojournalist Heidi Levine, who is in stable condition, described the attack, saying she was pushed to the ground and kicked repeatedly by the settlers. She was wearing a flak jacket and helmet, which likely saved her from more serious injury.
The incident has been condemned by Reporters Without Borders, who slammed the attack as "brazen violence." The Washington Post has called for a thorough investigation into the incident and has urged authorities to take action to protect journalists and other civilians in the region.
