Flight attendant's impromptu performance goes viral

The full report

A Virgin Australia flight attendant has become an overnight online sensation after serenading passengers during a domestic flight from the Gold Coast to Melbourne.

The cabin manager, David Hammond, used the in-flight intercom receiver as a makeshift microphone to perform a rendition of Tina Turner's 1984 hit 'What's Love Got to Do With It?'

Several passengers were seen swaying, clapping along, and joining in, while others filmed the moment. The video was later posted on social media, where it quickly went viral.

According to Mr Hammond, the idea for the performance came from a passenger who asked him to sing. He chose Tina Turner's song at the request of the passenger, who also happened to be a fan of the late diva.

The flight was described by Mr Hammond as a 'wonderful experience', with passengers having their phones out filming and taking photos, and everyone singing along and clapping.

Mr Hammond, who has worked for Virgin for over three years, did not rule out further musical performances on flights, suggesting that he may be a regular entertainer in the skies.
