Multiple European flights inspected after anonymous bomb threats

Seven commercial flights operating across Europe were subjected to security inspections after anonymous warnings of possible bombs. The incidents involved two Ryanair services – one departing Dublin and another from Lisbon – which were diverted to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport for checks. Both aircraft were examined by police bomb‑disposal teams and a sniffer dog, and no explosives were discovered.

The Dublin‑origin flight was escorted by the Italian Air Force to the airport, while the Lisbon‑origin flight landed without a military escort. In addition to the two Ryanair flights, authorities inspected aircraft in Poland, Spain and Bulgaria. Two of the seven planes were en route to Warsaw Chopin Airport when the alerts were received. All inspections followed standard security protocols, including searches of passengers, luggage and the aircraft interior.

British officials described the events as “malicious hoax threats” and emphasized that the United Kingdom’s aviation security system remains robust. Aviation security analyst Paul Mason told BBC Radio 5 Live that bomb threats on passenger planes are rare and that the coordinated nature of the tips suggested a deliberate attempt rather than random calls. He noted that airline crews and ground staff follow established procedures to assess the credibility of any threat before deciding on diversions or further action.

No link between the seven incidents has been confirmed, but security agencies from the affected countries are cooperating to determine whether the threats were part of a coordinated campaign. All flights resumed normal operations after the investigations cleared the alerts.
