Reform UK mayor under police investigation for allegedly sharing 'naked and sexualised' images
The full report
Luke Campbell, the mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, is under police investigation for allegedly showing 'naked and sexualised' images of himself to a female member of staff. The incident is said to have occurred in May, when Campbell allegedly showed a senior female colleague four fully naked and sexualised images of himself.
The woman, who has not been named, claimed she felt 'shocked, embarrassed and humiliated' after the incident and was forced out of her job soon after. The allegations have come to light as part of an internal grievance procedure at Hull and East Yorkshire combined authority (Heyca).
Campbell, a former Olympic boxing champion, has not responded to requests to comment on the allegations. Reform UK, the party he represents, has said he 'firmly denies' the allegations, claiming they come from a 'disgruntled employee attempting to leverage a settlement in a meritless workplace dispute'.
The allegations against Campbell are the latest in a series of controversies to hit Reform UK. An ITV investigation uncovered racist comments from a number of Reform UK councillors and a prospective MP, and an aspiring Reform UK MP was suspended after making comments about Muslims and asylum seekers.
Nadine Dorries, a former Conservative minister and now a Reform UK member, has come to Campbell's defence, claiming that the 'sexualised' image was in fact a 2013 magazine cover showing the former boxer posing naked from the waist up after he won gold at the 2012 London Olympics. However, this claim appears to be at odds with witness testimony submitted as part of the internal grievance procedure.
The police investigation into Campbell is ongoing, and he has not been arrested in relation to the allegations. Reform UK has said it has opened investigations into the behaviour of its activists and members, and has stated that there is 'no room for racism' in the party.
