Australia Post urges drivers to be more cautious around postal workers after a rise in incidents on driveways, intersections, and roundabouts.

The full report

Australia Post has issued a plea to drivers across the country to be more attentive on the road, particularly near postal workers, following an increase in accidents over the past 12 months.

According to new data, over 300 posties were involved in incidents, with more than five accidents occurring on average each week during the 2026 financial year.

These accidents often require hospital treatment, time off work, and ongoing recovery. The most common third-party accidents involved failing to give way at intersections and roundabouts, failing to stop safely, striking posties from behind, and failing to check safely when reversing out of driveways.

Australia Post General Manager Safety, Russell Munro, reminded motorists to take greater care and pay closer attention when sharing the road with postal workers.

Munro emphasized that road safety is not only about highways and long-distance travel, but also about everyday environments, such as driveways, intersections, and roundabouts.

Australia Post posties travel over 256,000 kilometres daily, delivering mail and parcels to homes and businesses across Australia, with a surge in deliveries seen during peak seasons.

Munro also warned that an uptick in accidents could occur ahead of the festive season, urging drivers to slow down, look twice, and take care to prevent serious incidents.
