The story
A Mexican judge has convicted three men of murdering Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their US friend Carter Rhoad during a surfing trip in Mexico in 2024. The brothers, aged 30 and 33 respectively, and their friend, 30, were shot dead in Baja California state in an alleged robbery. (SOURCE 3)
The prosecution had sought 150 years in prison for each of the three defendants, who were identified as Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús. Their full names were withheld for legal reasons. The judge found all three men guilty of aggravated homicide and several related offences. (SOURCE 3)
The victims were killed during a surfing trip in Mexico's Baja California region, on the Pacific coast, in April 2024. The brothers' parents, Debra and Martin Robinson, travelled from Western Australia to attend the trial and were in court for the verdict. (SOURCE 2)
